I have composed the score to MOUNTAIN, the second feature dance work by Kristina Chan. I perform this work live for each performance.

MOUNTAIN is the second instalment in a trilogy of works by choreographer and dancer Kristina Chan, following on from her break-through work A Faint Existence and continuing her exploration of our relationship to nature and environmental change.

This new work sees three performers move through gradual processes of change in a choreography of impermanence, transformation and existential threat.

MOUNTAIN is a future ritual in reverence for what no longer exists.

Working closely with collaborators James Brown (Sound), Clare Britton (Design) and Matt Marshall (Lighting) to create an environment for the dance to exist within, Chan and her team work with ideas of invisible landscapes and unseen forces, creating palpable work that is strong in imagery and delicate in sensitivity.

★★★★ Mountain review: Kristina Chan scales new heights – Sydney Morning Herald

“The studio space is washed in various shades of low light. For one sequence it is blue: was this mountain once under water and is that a six-legged sea creature formed by the performers?

The desire for such specific interpretations falls away as the abstraction of the piece takes over with compelling power, helped by James Brown’s vivid soundscape.”
